How do you plan a week of simple meals?

Plan a few meals, not every meal

A workable plan usually covers a handful of main meals rather than every item of every day. Leaving room for leftovers, simple repeats and a flexible evening keeps the plan realistic, so it survives a busy week instead of being abandoned by Tuesday.

Build the shopping list from the plan

Writing the week of meals first, then listing only what those meals need, reduces both over-buying and the mid-week gap where nothing in the house makes a meal. Checking what is already in the cupboard before shopping cuts waste further.

Repeat what works

Meal planning does not require constant novelty. A rotating set of reliable, well-liked meals lowers daily decision-making and shopping effort, and a plan built mostly from known dishes is far easier to keep up than one that tries something new every night.
